Am I Human? by Rebecca Carmody

This piece depicts the steady pace at which AI is becoming indiscernible from humans. I used my own features to create a fractured humanoid face, floating in fragments, signifying how AI is spreading out into the wider world. The background is a repeated pattern of the recognised computer code of binary, which any curious coder will be able to read as “I am alive?” ”Do I exist?” ”Am I human?” repeatedly. I thought using a real binary sentence added a layer of fun, giving an interactive aspect to this 2D piece. It also adds a longevity to its impact as it leads the viewer to go in search of the piece again to solve the riddle. The well-known Windows 365 pop-up gives an oxymoronic question which will hopefully make the viewer think about the content even after the media is no longer within sight. I used the colour blue pallet to represent the blue computer screen known as the ‘death-screen’ which appears on a computer when it is beyond repair. This represents how AI could be a negative aspect, whereas my use of human features gives reassurance that if humans retain control, AI can be a force for good.
