Using a smartphone app, Neureka, we aim to capture how mental health symptoms develop and evolve over time, in huge samples of people, providing a window into early detection and prevention. The project focuses on compulsiveness, the tendency for certain human behaviours to become habitual and urge-driven over time – from everyday behaviours like checking your phone and biting your nails to serious mental health conditions like obsessive-compulsive disorder and substance addiction. With the help of the public, we will understand how compulsive behaviours develop and trial new ways to help people get rid of them.

More than 22,000 people have contributed to Nueureka’s research so far, helping shed light on the biggest mysteries in Brain Science.
