ADAPT’s Professor Andy Way has recently announced a forthcoming new book entitled “Automating Translation” due to appear in August 2024. This book, co-authored with ADAPT colleagues Joss Moorkens (Dublin City University) and Séamus Lankford (Munster Technological University), offers a comprehensive look into the realm of translation automation. Focused on demystifying new models of machine translation (MT), this book aims to explain how neural MT and multilingual Large Language Models (LLMs) work providing readers — especially those with a less technical background — with valuable insights. The book also extends its scope to audiovisual translation and localisation while addressing ethical and sustainability concerns. Enhanced with activities, further reading, and online support, it promises to be an indispensable resource for translation studies students, translators, and users of translation technology.
The book is available for pre-order here. Given the popularity of Andy’s original LinkedIn post, it is likely to be a bestseller!
