European Language Data Space (LDS) workshop comes to Dublin
The European Language Data Space and the ADAPT Centre in Dublin City University (DCU) are hosting a workshop and bringing together experts from Irish industry, public administration, and research to discuss the importance of language data for developing Language Technologies (LT) and AI-based tools in Ireland.
Since early 2023, the European Commission has been actively supporting the establishment of Common European Language Spaces. The Language Data Space (LDS) allows for communication and exchange of data, of all modalities and languages, to provide a new dimension in language data sharing for all European countries. The objective of the LDS is to build a trustworthy and effective data data marketplace for language resources in both the public and private sectors, aligning with the EU Data Strategy.’
To promote this new initiative, a series of workshops are being organised across Europe to support local industries, research groups and public administrations interested in integrating this new language data exchange space. The workshops also offer an opportunity to connect with relevant local and European networks, and promote and support the existing reliable infrastructures.
Highlights of the Dublin Workshop
The Irish LDS workshop, taking place today, October 10th at the Camden Court Hotel, will address needs of the Irish stakeholders from both private and public sectors, whether they are providers developers and/or consumers of language data. Through insightful talks and panel discussions, the event will focus on the experiences of these stakeholders, exploring critical questions surrounding the procurement and sharing of language data.
By supporting efforts to produce, monetise, and obtain language data to power LT and AI-based tools for English and Irish languages,, the LDS can help European and Irish stakeholders achieve their desired technological growth, and enhance their competitiveness in a multilingual Europe where Language Technologies and AI-based applications play an increasingly important role.
The workshop is aimed at data owners and data providers, LT developers and SMEs, as well as to public administration executives, officers and partners.
