Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) has announced the creation of several new Research Centres to tackle global challenges. Two ADAPT academics will play key leadership roles in these centres. Dr. P.J. Wall, an ADAPT Academic Collaborator, has been appointed Director of the Research Centre for Sustainable Technology & Digital Innovation (STaDIa). This centre will emphasise research on digital innovation to drive global sustainability and ethical AI practices, while advancing transparent digital governance of these technologies—a core focus within ADAPT. Dr. Wall’s work will also explore data analytics and optimisation, targeting sustainable technological transformations.
Additionally, ADAPT’s Dr. Damon Berry will lead the Towards People Oriented Technology (tPOT) Research Centre. This centre is dedicated to developing technology that places people at its core, aiming for technology innovations in the broad area of biomedical engineering, wellness and smart environments that prioritise user-centred design and inclusivity.
Reflecting on tPOT’s evolution, Dr. Berry noted; “tPOT began in 2008 within the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at DIT (now TU Dublin), inspired partly by our original team’s love of tea! After years of collaboration across TU Dublin’s departments, from engineering to computer science and the built environment, the time was right to establish a formally recognised research centre. Today, we have over 50 members, combining experienced researchers and early-career talent.”
