Trinity College Dublin played host to a highly anticipated workshop on August 20, 2024, focusing on the use of Generative AI in Research Management. Organised by the ADAPT and AMBER Centres, the event was a resounding success, with tickets selling out and attracting attendees from across Ireland and beyond.
The workshop featured distinguished experts in the field, including Professor Dave Lewis, who spoke on AI ethics, Professor Abeba Birhane, who discussed AI accountability, and Dr. Lionel Jouvet alongside Mr. Mads Lykke Berggreen, who provided insights on using generative AI in research management.
Targeted towards research support managers and administrators, the workshop delved into the emerging role of generative AI models like ChatGPT in automating time-consuming tasks in research management. The sessions explored the ethical dilemmas, user accountability, and practical applications of these tools, aiming to equip participants with the knowledge to harness AI’s potential while safeguarding intellectual property and privacy.
This event was organised in response to the growing interest in AI’s role in research management, a key topic identified at the recent Irish ARMAA workshop hosted by Teagasc. The workshop underscored the importance of understanding the ethical implications and practical applications of AI in research, providing much-needed clarity for professionals in the field.
