SignON, led by Principal Investigator and ADAPT researcher Andy Way, has been shortlisted for the Most Innovative Transformation award at the Digital Transformation Awards 2024.
The SignON project, which secured €5.6M in Horizon 2020 funding, was created to bridge the communication gap between spoken language users and deaf sign language users. Following a highly successful three-year program, SignON has made significant strides in this area.
Throughout the program, SignON developed a communication service that employs machine translation to convert between sign and spoken languages. This service enhances information exchange among deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing individuals. The project, characterised by its user-centric and community-driven approach, involved close collaboration with European deaf and hard of hearing communities to define use cases, co-design and co-develop the service and application, and assess and validate their quality and acceptance.
The Digital Transformation Awards recognise the most innovative individuals and companies driving excellence in Ireland’s digital transformation landscape. The awards gala will be held on July 4th at the Crowne Plaza in Santry.
