Dublin, 6th April 2023: ADAPT Academic Professor Aphra Kerr (Maynooth University) took part in a panel discussion recently on ‘Designing a Digital World for Children‘. This event was organised by the Digital Futures Commission in the UK, and took place at University of London on the 31st of March. Joining Prof. Kerr was Prof. Ann Phoenix (Thomas Coram Research Unit, UK), and Tim Gill (Independent writer and researcher) as well as Jollywise, an award-winning digital agency, specialising in children’s entertainment.
The panel discussion focussed on the importance of play for children in a growing digital world. This event marked the end of the ‘Play in a Digital World’ project and brought together researchers, policymakers, product designers, academics, politicians and young people to explore the concept of ‘Playful by Design’, a blueprint for education data and practical approaches to innovating in the best interest of children. The overall goal of the project is to advance children’s rights in the digital environment into practical design and policy solutions.
