The ADAPT Centre, in collaboration with Betafestival.ie, hosted a highly anticipated Machine Learning Meet Up on November 12th at the Digital Hub. The event brought together experts and enthusiasts to explore cutting-edge advancements in AI, data science, and creative technology.
PhD student Malick Ebiele, from University College Dublin (UCD) and the ADAPT Centre, presented his acclaimed research paper, “Personalization of Dataset Retrieval Results using a Data Valuation Method.” The study, nominated for Best Paper and Best Student Paper at the KDIR 2024 conference, proposes a metadata-driven approach to enhance user satisfaction in dataset retrieval systems. The project is a collaboration between ADAPT and Tailte Éireann.
Dr. Gary Mc Darby, CEO of Edgeliot (a DCU spinout) and an ADAPT Centre consultant, showcased his innovative platform for real-time monitoring of city carbon footprints and air quality. His presentation, “Building a Real-Time Carbon Footprint and Air Quality Platform for Cities,” highlighted the integration of intelligent sensors, IoT networks, and Edge AI algorithms. This innovative system uses LoRa networks and Azure-based visualisation to detect anomalies in climate data.
The event also featured creative insights from Betafestival collaborators. Media artist Cailean Finn explored computational aesthetics, histories, and processes embedded in socio-technological systems. Find out more about Caelinn’s work here: https://www.caileanfinn.ie/
Aisling Phelan, a multidisciplinary artist, examined the intersection of AI, 3D animation, and digital ethics, emphasising the complexities of online and offline identities. [LINK]
