A new summer school recently took place as part of the LT-Bridge H2020 Project. Over three and a half days the event featured talks, activities, and workshops and ran in NUI Galway and attracted many attendees of the international ACL 2022 conference which took place in Dublin. With a particular focus on Chatbot Dialog Technology and Personalisation, Distributional semantics, and coreference resolution, the event also looked at research career development for early stage researchers.
The summer school ran as a hybrid event, with particular enthusiasm for the in person gathering.
Speaking about the event, Dr John Judge, Head of Research Development and EU Research Programme Manager at the SFI ADAPT Centre, said: “The programme covered a range of topics including dialogue systems, personalisation and user modelling, neural machine translation, benchmarks and datasets. We were delighted that 37 people joined us in person and 23 participated in sessions online via Zoom including a highly interactive poster session for students and researchers from the LT Bridge consortium and beyond.”
In addition there was a special hands-on session with Neural Machine Translation allowing participants to study Transformers NMT library and HuggingFace pre-trained models, along with a range of social activities designed to create opportunities for networking.
LT-Bridge is part of the Horizon 2020 Work Programme spreading Excellence and Widening Participation (WIDESPREAD) and aims to integrate Malta into European research and innovation efforts for AI-based language technologies.
