Following its successful online event in September 2023, LegumeLegacy was delighted to host its first in-person training event in November. We welcomed all Doctoral Researchers, PIs and partners of the project to Dublin and provided Doctoral Researchers with tailored interdisciplinary and intersectoral training in advanced research and transferable skills. LegumeLegacy is a MSCA Doctoral Network investigating sustainable solutions for improving crop production systems and is funded by the European Commission.
The picturesque setting in the suburbs of Dublin provided an ideal background as the week kicked off with captivating narratives from supervisors and mentors. Their personal journeys from PhD to industry or academia will undoubtedly provide the researchers with valuable insights for their career development.
As part of our transferable skills training, Professor Yvonne Buckley delivered a session on Promoting a Green Agenda and raised awareness as she encouraged us to develop a sustainable travel policy for LegumeLegacy. Dr John Finn shared his experience in the Use of Social Media in Research, making us look forward to the news the Doctoral Researchers will be sharing across platforms about LegumeLegacy and their research. Furthermore, the ADAPT Centre delivered training on various transferable skills such as open science and data management practices, communication and dissemination, and commercialisation, a researcher from another MSCA project also shared her experiences. Frank Sweeney gave our researchers valuable tips and tricks to improve their presentation skills. Lorna Greene created awareness and understanding around equality, diversity and inclusivity.
Afterwards the Doctoral Researchers visited the Book of Kells and the Old Library at Trinity College Dublin and had the chance to discover Dublin city centre, before finishing off their week with Statistics and Data Science training.
All agree LegumeLegacy is looking forward to coming together at its next training event hosted by ETH and WBF-A in Switzerland.
