Two ADAPT Trinity College Dublin Academics have been honoured with Trinity Innovation Awards at this year’s award ceremony.
Dr. Dara Meldrum, of Trinity’s School of Medicine, has been honoured with the Trinity Innovation Campus Company Founder Award, recognising her work in digital health and vestibular rehabilitation. The award celebrates her innovative mobile health platform, Vertigenius, which uses wearable sensors and digital exercises to assist those suffering from dizziness, vertigo, and balance issues. Vertigenius is an ADAPT Centre spin-out company.
Prof. Carl Vogel, an ADAPT academic and leading computational linguist from Trinity’s School of Computer Science & Statistics, also won an award this year. Winning the Trinity Inventor Award, this accolade recognises academics whose innovative research has had the creation of intellectual property which has subsequently been licensed to Industry/or a campus company.
As an experienced researcher and clinician, Dr. Meldrum combines academic expertise with practical care to advance digital and tele-health solutions. VertiGenius streamlines the rehabilitation process for patients and clinicians, offering a user-friendly, technology-driven approach that enhances treatment outcomes.
The Campus Company Founders Award recognises academics who are instrumental in establishing scalable, high-potential campus companies that attract investment. This achievement underscores the transformative potential of digital therapeutics in improving healthcare and empowering individuals with vestibular disorders.
Prof. Vogel played a pivotal role in the establishment of three Trinity spinouts and is a key figure in the Generative AI revolution, particularly in text processing through large language models (LLMs). His intellectual property has been licensed into Trinity spin outs and MNCs including Microsoft and Digital Linguistics Ltd., solidifying his impact on academia and the tech industry.
