The Distributed and Interactive Systems (DIS) group from CWI presented the research study “Evaluation of point cloud features for no-reference visual quality assessment” at the IEEE International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX) 2023 as part of the TRANSMIXR work on metrics and evaluation.
This research study explores the use of full-reference features for assessing the quality of point cloud contents in a no-reference framework. The study assesses various features often employed in full-reference point cloud quality assessments and tests their performance in predicting the quality without a reference. Results illustrate the potential of full-reference features for no-reference assessments. In addition, the findings from the study encourage further research and development of point cloud quality metrics using different features and machine learning techniques.
TRANSMIXR is a Horizon Europe project led by the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) and led by Dr Niall Murray of TUS and investigator in the SFI ADAPT Centre. TRANSMIXR will create a suite of user centric technologies to support the creation, consumption and understanding of new media experiences in distributed, collaborative and immersive ways. Underpinned by the convergence of AI and XR, the design of these new systems will be informed by and be evaluated with real end users.
