CPDP Workshop - Call for Early-Stage Researchers (ESRs)
A dialogue on AI and Data Governance when the world is watching—a deliberation with early-career researchers
Are you an early-stage researcher working on AI and data governance?
Join our interactive workshop at CPDP, which brings together early-stage researchers (ESRs) and experts from academia, industry, civil society, and policymaking for in-depth discussions on research and real-world challenges and opportunities in the area of AI and data governance.
What to Expect:
- Present your research to an interdisciplinary audience
- Discuss the practical and policy implications of your research with experts and practitioners
- Gain insights into opportunities and challenges in digital regulation from diverse perspectives
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Balancing AI regulation and innovation—the shifts towards simplified regulation
- Global challenges and opportunities in AI and data governance
- AI regulatory divergence between the EU and the US
- Success factors for AI beyond technical performance
- Evidence-based, participatory, and cross-sector approaches for AI policymaking
- Regulatory technology (RegTech) solutions for compliance with AI and data regulations
- Cross-border data flows and data sovereignty
- Risk-based approaches to AI oversight
To express your interest in presenting at the workshop, please submit a brief abstract of your research (max 300 words) by 7 April 2025 to JRC-Digital-Governance@ec.europa.eu.
Five ESRs will be selected and notified by 9 April 2025.
This is an in-person event, and attendance requires registration for the CPDP conference, taking place in Brussels from 21 to 23 May 2025.

The workshop will run for 2 hours and 30 minutes. This interactive double-slot workshop includes two parts:
- Each ESR will present their novel research (5 min each). Then, they will be joined by experts in breakout sessions to discuss their research (45 min).
- Experts will discuss the opportunities and challenges for ESRs in the international digital regulatory space and share their experiences.
