Dublin, 5th May 2023: Beyond 2022 | Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland, a project led by Professor Peter Crooks (Trinity College Dublin), has recently been shortlisted for this year’s Tech Excellence Award in the category Private Sector Project of the Year.
The Virtual Treasury is an all-island and international collaborative research programme to digitally recreate the Record Treasury of the Public Record Office of Ireland (PROI) which was destroyed on the 30th June 1922 during the opening engagement of the Irish Civil War. The Treasury is a free and permanently accessible open access resource available online to all those interested in Ireland’s deep history at home and abroad.
The Tech Excellence Awards rewards the outstanding skills, innovation and determination of the technology sector and its people. In particular, the Project of the Year Awards recognise technology projects which have delivered exceptional operational and competitive advantage.
The Virtual Treasury is a project by Trinity College Dublin in collaboration with the National Archives, the National Archives (UK), the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland, The Library, Trinity College Dublin and the Irish Manuscripts Commission.
