Tech Central has recently unveiled the finalists for the 2024 Tech Excellence Awards in partnership with IP Telecom. This year ADAPT was shortlisted across two significant categories:
For the Public Sector Project of the Year award, ADAPT’s SignOn project, based at DCU, stands out as one of eight finalists. SignOn represents a pioneering endeavor in sign language technologies, driving innovation in digital transformation. By leading the development of accessible translation services, SignOn aims to bridge communication barriers between the Deaf, hard of hearing (DHH), and hearing communities, showcasing transformative innovation through collaborative research and ethical technology deployment. The project, backed by €5.6M Horizon 2020 funding, involves a consortium of 17 European partners coordinated by Prof. Andy Way Professor of Computing at Dublin City University, Ireland (coordinator) and Scientific Lead Dr. Dimitar Shterionov Assistant Professor in Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence at Tilburg University, The Netherlands.
In the category of Emerging Technology Innovation of the Year, ADAPT’s collaboration with Huawei on the NL2SQL project was recognised as one of seven finalists. This initiative focuses on developing a novel Natural Language to SQL (NL2SQL) translation system, addressing a crucial challenge in customer-facing business settings. By integrating NL2SQL techniques into commercial database management systems, the project aims to enhance accessibility, improve user experience, and streamline processes. Divided into two phases, the project aims to construct an efficient NL2SQL model tailored for diverse data tables and categories.
The Tech Excellence Awards ceremony is scheduled for May 23rd at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire, with RTE Radio’s Shay Byrne hosting the event, which is already poised for a sold-out audience.
