A research paper, co authored by ADAPT Trinity College Dublin PhD student Colin Daly and his supervisor Dr. Lucy Hederman, has won the Best Paper Award at the 16th International Joint Conference on Knowledge Discovery, Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management (KDIR) held in Porto, Portugal, this month.

Titled, “Learning to Rank for Query Auto-Complete with Language Modelling in Enterprise Search,” the paper explores innovative methods to enhance query auto-completion (QAC) in Enterprise Search systems. By incorporating signals like prefix frequency, trending queries, and terminology detection via large language models (LLMs), the research introduced a Learning to Rank (LTR) model that significantly improves QAC rankings.
