Next week, 11th – 17th of November, is Science Week and as part of the series of events ADAPT invites the public to engage in a series of thought-provoking events that blend art, artificial intelligence (AI), ethics, and digital democracy.
Art or AI? at Monaghan STEM Family Festival (November 18th) ADAPT’s Education and Public Engagement team will present the ‘Art or AI?’ Museum of Very Modern Art at the Cavan-Monaghan Science Festival. This interactive exhibit challenges visitors to determine if displayed artworks are human-made or AI-generated, sparking discussion on creativity in the digital age. Attendees can also participate in simple activities such as creating a zine, inspired by “Technology in My Life.”
The Bigger Picture: Re-Imagining AI Imagery Exhibition (Cork: November 11th–15th, Dublin: November 1st–17th) Experience ‘The Bigger Picture,’ an innovative art-science collaboration designed to reshape public perceptions of AI. Through workshops, artist commissions, and exhibitions, this project explores how AI can influence visual storytelling. A panel discussion on November 14th will bring experts together to discuss the broader implications of AI in imagery and its impact on society.

The Bigger Picture: Re-Imagining AI Imagery Discussion (The Digital Hub, November 14th @ 18.00) When you think of AI how do you picture it? Why do pictures of AI matter? And how do you even begin to think about designing accurate representations of AI? Get a behind-the-scenes look into the journey of The Bigger Picture project. Predictive Texts (The Long Room Hub, TCD, November 14th @ 17.00) Far from Earth, an astronaut has a conversation with an Emergency Interpreting Hologram… Whenever a new technology promises to change our world, science fiction authors help us imagine the futures it might bring. Science fiction has always been a creative space to explore the ethical, social, and philosophical implications of emerging technologies with the potential to change the world—from robotics to space travel, television to the internet. Inspired by these creative sparks, Alvean Jones and Lianne Quigley have developed an exciting new performance in Irish Sign Language, to imagine the potential future of Artificial Intelligence. Ethics Studio @ Beta (November 1st–17th) Running during the Beta Festival at The Digital Hub, Dublin, ‘The Ethics Studio’ is a unique drop-in space where attendees can explore ethical dilemmas related to digital technology. Visitors can participate in this interactive space, which doubles as a live research environment for ADAPT researchers studying how creative activities can deepen understanding of ethical issues in technology. KT4D Digital Democracy Lab (November 13th) On November 13th, ADAPT’s KT4D project will host the Digital Democracy Lab. This interactive workshop will delve into the potential of AI and Big Data to support democracy and enhance civic participation, while addressing the ethical, legal, and cultural challenges these technologies pose. Facing the Future: FRT Think-In (November 7th) Taking place at The Digital Hub, Dublin, from 18:00 to 20:00, ‘Facing the Future: Let’s Talk Facial Recognition Technology’ is an interactive Think-In focused on discussing the implications of facial recognition technology in our everyday lives and exploring its potential future uses and impacts.
