04 October 2024

A team of researchers associated with ADAPT at DCU secured first place in Huawei’s highly competitive Cloud Resource Management Competition for Ireland/UK, claiming a prize of €6,000.  The team tackled a real-world problem using linear programming and the competition marked the first time the team applied their mathematical optimisation technique in an industrial context.

The competition for first place was tough however the judges decided the clarity and impact of the ADAPT team’s approach and final presentation set them apart, earning them the top spot. The winning team consisted of Thang-Long Nguyen-Ho, Mai Boi Quach, Thao-Nhu Nguyen who are supervised by Professor Cathal Gurrin (ADAPT’s Deputy Director) as well as Long Do and  Nam Trinh, who are the additional team members.
