22 January 2025

Researchers Haula Sani Galadima (University College Dublin), Cormac Doherty (University College Dublin), Nick McDonald (Trinity College Dublin), Junli Liang (University College Dublin), Rob Brennan (University College Dublin) have published an influential paper in the Elsevier ScienceDirect Computer Standards and Interface Journal. The article, titled “Evaluating Incident Response in CSIRTs using Cube Socio-technical Systems Analysis”, appears in a special issue focused on human factors in cybersecurity.

The research leverages Cube Socio-Technical Systems Analysis (STSA) to assess Incident Response (IR) teams with the support of the Access Ricks Knowledge (ARK) platform. The team developed a specialised IR Cube questionnaire and created open ARK ontologies to address the unique challenges within the IR domain.

Their work included a case study of a large, accredited CSIRT, employing a multi-stage Cube STSA to identify critical challenges. Key findings highlighted issues related to CSIRT learning and communication for resilience, offering valuable insights for future technological interventions.
