An Irish Research Council (IRC) project on ‘Cognitive Ergonomics and Translation Tools’ is providing insights into the complex cognitive operations carried out by translators. ADAPT researcher, Dr Carlos Teixeira and Dr Sharon O’Brien recently carried out a translation process experiment with 21 translators from MSS, a language service provider in Barcelona.
The study uses techniques such as eye tracking to analyse how professional translators interact with MT Quality Estimation scores during live translation sessions. For the study Dr Teixeira collaborated with ADAPT researchers Chris Hokamp and Dr Yvette Graham.
