Awais Akbar, a PhD researcher at the ADAPT Centre, Trinity College Dublin, recently had his paper published in the UMAP Adjunct ’24: Adjunct Proceedings of the 32nd ACM Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation, and Personalization. The conference was held in Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy, from July 1st to July 4th, where Akbar presented his work.
Co-authored with Owen Conlan, this paper titled “Towards Integrating Human-in-the-loop Control in Proactive Intelligent Personalised Agents” explores the integration of Human-in-the-loop (HITL) control within Proactive Intelligent Personalised Agents (PIPAs). These agents are designed to proactively anticipate users’ needs and perform tasks on their behalf. Akbar’s research investigates the conditions that trigger HITL control in PIPAs, the mechanisms involved, and the challenges associated with these triggers.
