ADAPT Deputy Director and Professor at the School of Computing ( Dublin City University), Prof. Cathal Gurrin, featured on the Moncrieff Show on Newstalk on Monday afternoon and was one of the podcast highlights of the show. He was there to discuss his research on lifelogging.
Prof. Gurrin’s expertise lies in leveraging deep user profiles to develop assistive technologies through wearable sensors and data analytics. This innovative approach, championed by his lifelogging group, seamlessly integrates computer science, cognitive science, and data-driven healthcare analytics to generate next-generation digital records tailored to individuals.
For the past 18 years, Prof. Gurrin has been meticulously lifelogging, capturing a photo every 30 seconds and harnessing AI to analyse them. Presently, his device snaps a thousand images daily, securely storing them on servers for AI-driven analysis. Lifelogging aims to aid individuals grappling with dementia and Alzheimer’s by compiling comprehensive profiles, enriched with biometric data, allowing them to be easily searchable by the individual. This database can facilitate prolonged independent living for those dealing with memory impairments.
