Web of Influence: AI is Everywhere by Elise Racine

This artwork explores the concepts of interconnectedness, complexity, and transparency in a world shaped by AI. It uses abstract buildings and geometric lines to illustrate how AI is everywhere, seamlessly woven into the fabric of daily life. The vibrant red, green, yellow, and grey buildings with their brick-like textures represent the physical world. White lines resembling digital circuits flow through these structures, symbolizing the invisible data networks and algorithmic systems that power modern society, everything from critical infrastructure to online shopping experiences. These lines—some fractured, others continuous—reflect the ubiquity and complexity of AI. Despite being built, deployed, and trained by humans, algorithmic systems are difficult to explain. This includes how such systems influence decisions and actions. The image similarly struggles with transparency; the lines’ origins and destinations are unclear. The piece prompts viewers to reflect on how AI, a product of human ingenuity and interactions, is omnipresent and yet operates just beneath the surface of our understanding.
