Julie is a Full Professor of Computational Linguistics and Speech Technology at the UCD School of Computer Science. She is a Principal Investigator in ADAPT and is a member of the leadership team and Challenge Lead in the Digital Content Transformation Strand. She is the institutional representative for UCD on the ADAPT Management Committee. Building on her past research on phonetic-feature-based approaches to speech recognition and expressive speech synthesis systems, her current research focuses on modelling native-speaker intuitions about spoken language and non-native speaker interactions with native speakers and virtual agents. Julie has also provided senior leadership in graduate education at University College Dublin and at a national level as UCD Deputy Registrar for Graduate Studies (2008 -2014) and UCD Dean of Graduate Studies (2010-2014).
