ADAPT Researchers Respond to Artworks at Beta Festival, Offering Insights into Technology and Society

14 November 2024
A modern, immersive installation space bathed in vibrant pink lighting. The room features a clean, minimalist design with bean bags arranged around a circular graphic on the floor, which appears to include text or diagrams. Several screens are mounted on the walls, displaying various visuals. A small table with equipment is positioned in the back, along with what looks like an artistic installation or sculpture. A vertical banner hangs from the ceiling, featuring a QR code. The atmosphere feels futuristic and engaging, inviting visitors to explore the technology and ideas presented in the space.

ADAPT researchers took part in this year’s Beta Festival, bringing their expertise to audiences through insightful responses to thought-provoking artworks. The festival features a range of interactive and immersive pieces that explore society’s relationship with emerging technologies. ADAPT researchers provided critical context for these artworks, helping visitors engage with complex issues around artificial intelligence, digital culture and the future of human-computer interaction.

Each researcher response was tailored to a specific exhibition piece, encouraging audiences to engage with the societal and ethical dimensions the artists sought to address. By offering this context, ADAPT researchers bridged the gap between art and academic insights to spark further discussion in The Ethics Studio at Beta Festival.

ADAPT is delighted to be the research partner at Beta Festival and the Centre’s contributions reflect a commitment to fostering dialogue around technology’s role in society.
