Dual Realities by Daithi Magner

The sculpture “Dual Realities” serves as a compelling exploration of public perceptions and misconceptions surrounding Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the realm of Visual and Fine Art. One side showcases traditional craftsmanship, symbolising human innovation and emotional depth, while the
opposite side presents a monochrome form that, despite being identical in size, differs in texture and finish.

This contrast underscores a prevalent misconception: while AI can replicate visual forms, it often lacks the nuanced emotional expression inherent in traditional art. As AI technology advances, it raises critical questions about the boundaries between human artistry and machine-generated outputs. Many people perceive AI-generated art as inferior or lacking authenticity, reflecting a bias that suggests creativity is an exclusively human trait. Studies indicate that audiences often favor human-made art over AI-generated works, highlighting the need for a deeper understanding of
these biases.

By addressing the ethical implications and biases rooted in AI—stemming from human data and decisions – this piece encourages viewers to consider whether AI will enhance or diminish artistic expression. As AI becomes more integrated into our lives, will we embrace it as a collaborator in creativity or resist its encroachment on human expression?
