All Irish Linguistics Olympiad Launches 2024 Workshops in Northern Ireland

The All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad (AILO) is set to kick off this year’s competition with workshops in Northern Ireland, beginning on Wednesday October 2nd at Methodist College Belfast.   AILO has been a long-standing and popular event among students in Northern Ireland for many years, with over 44,000 students island-wide taking part in the competition to date.  There will be further workshops running until January all across the island. Schools can sign up at https://ailo.adaptcentre.ie/enter to register to attend one of these free workshops. 

AILO engages students in applying logic and linguistics to solve language-related puzzles, enhancing their understanding of language and translation. The competition aims to boost students’ problem-solving skills and language awareness while inspiring them to explore exciting careers that combine computing, language, and linguistics.

In March 2024, Vihaan Kulkarni from Methodist College got first place in the Junior category and his award will be given at the workshop launch.AILO is run by the ADAPT research Centre. The top Irish problem-solvers from the competition will go on to represent Ireland at the 2025 International Linguistics Olympiad in Taiwan. There, they will compete against talented students from around the world in a week full of linguistic puzzles.
