The VIGILANT project has recently been acknowledged across several EU platforms for its proactive role in addressing crucial elections taking place this year. With disinformation campaigns increasingly affecting these elections, VIGILANT focuses on equipping law enforcement authorities with advanced tools to monitor and counteract disinformation campaigns leading to criminal activities, including efforts to manipulate election results.
The European Research Executive Agency (REA) specifically mentioned the VIGILANT project in their overview of science-driven initiatives that are bolstering democracy during this crucial election year. The article specifically notes that “This year of democratic expression is an opportunity to explore the multi-faceted ways research contributes to EU policies and strengthens democracy’s constituent parts: how to navigate the digital era and confront disinformation while bolstering public trust in science and tackling societal inequalities.”
VIGILANT is a three-year, €4 million project aiming to equip European Police Authorities with advanced technologies from academia to detect and analyse disinformation campaigns leading to criminal activities. The project unites 17 leading European partners from academia, industry, government research centres, and four Police Authorities in an interdisciplinary consortium to combat this threat to societal cohesion and democracy.
