Ar an 29ú Meán Fómhair, tháinig taighdeoirí le chéile i nGailearaí Dhubhghlais De hÍde i gColáiste na Tríonóide le haghaidh Oíche Eorpach na dTaighdeoirí 2023. I measc na dtaighdeoirí seo bhí ionadaithe ó fhoireann eSTÓR, Jane Dunne agus Teresa Clifford.
Bhí caint ghearr san AI Dilemma Café faoi obair eSTÓR agus an chaoi a bhfuil bailiú sonraí teanga in ann fáil réidh leis na línte dearga a thagann faoi fhocail Ghaeilge ar bhogearraí próiseála focal, leis sin ag cur feabhais ar acmhainní aistriúcháin agus ar theicneolaíocht teanga. Tháinig líon mór daoine chuig ár seastán chun foghlaim faoin togra. Rinne muid taispeántais dóibh den suíomh; ag breathnú ar cén sórt sonraí teanga a bhailíonn muid, cén áit as a dtagann siad agus an chaoi gur féidir le daoine sonraí a uaslódáil ar an suíomh. Chomh maith leis na píosaí teicniúla den togra, labhair muid leis na cuairteoirí faoin tábhacht a bhaineann le sonraí teanga agus teicneolaíocht teanga go ginearálta.
Ar deireadh tháinig os cionn 600 duine trí na doirse ag Oíche Eorpach na dTaighdeoirí. Fuair muid an seans an scéal a scaipeadh faoi eSTÓR; ag oscailt súl daoine faoin méid gur féidir a dhéanamh le teicneolaíocht teanga agus céard is féidir a dhéanamh le sonraí teanga poiblí. On Friday the 29th of September, researchers came together in the Douglas Hyde Gallery in Trinity College for European Researchers Night 2023. Amongst these researchers were representatives from the eSTÓR team (Jane Dunne and Teresa Clifford).
There was a short talk in the AI Dilemma Café about eSTÓR’s work and the way data collection can get rid of the red lines that pop up under Irish words on word processing software; improving translation resources and language technology. At the stand a great amount of people came to learn about the project. We gave them demonstrations of the website; looking at what type of data we collect, where they come from and how people can upload data to the website. Alongside the technology part of the project, we spoke to the visitors about the importance of language data and language technology as a whole.
In the end over 600 people came through the doors of European Researchers Night. We got the chance to speak to so many of them and to spread the word about eSTÓR; opening people’s eyes about the amount that can be done with language technology and what can be done with public language data.
