Researchers from ADAPT’s machine translation and natural language processing teams will play a large role in the 8th International Joint Conference on natural language processing. An annual international conference on computational linguistics which is hosted in Asia, and this year’s IJCNLP will take place in Taipei, Taiwan from November 27th to December 1st. During this time, ADAPT’s MT and NLP teams will publish one paper in the main conference, one workshop paper, one shared task summary paper, two shared task system description papers, and one demo paper in the proceedings.
During this time a range of insightful talks and workshops will be delivered by acclaimed academics from all corners of the globe. Included in the promising line-up will be a workshop organised by Dr. Haithem Afli and Dr. Chao-Hong Liu from ADAPT’s MT team. Marking both the team’s extensive participation in IJNCLP 2017 and their contribution to global research in Natural Language Processing generally, this workshop will focus on curation and applications of parallel and comparable corpora (Cupral 2017).
The Cupral Workshop has archived three papers and one shared task on customer feedback analysis, organised by Dr. Chao-Hong Liu, Yasufumi Moriya, Alberto Poncelas and Dr. Declan Groves (Microsoft Ireland), which is a follow-up research activity of an ADAPT-Microsoft joint research project in 2016. The shared task archived nine papers with twelve teams submitting their results. Pintu Lohar, Koel Dutta Chowdhury, Dr. Haithem Afli, Dr. Mohammed Hasanuzzaman and Prof Andy Way participated in this shared task and took the second place in its Japanese subtask. Overall, the ADAPT Centre has contributed significantly to IJCNLP 2017, already having secured numerous achievements. Included in these are the core MT and NLP team consisting of ADAPT researchers Daria Dzendzik, Alberto Poncelas, Dr. Carl Vogel, and Prof Qun Liu winning first place in the multi-choice question answering shared task, the publishing of a paper on racism detecion on Twitter in the main conference by Dr. Mohammed Hasanuzzaman, Prof Gael Dias, and Prof Andy Way, and the publishing of a demo paper on semantics-enhanced task-oriented dialogue translation which will be presented at the conference by Pintu Lohar, Dr. Haithem Afli, and Dr. Liangyou Li. Many ADAPT researchers also served in the program committees in the main conference, workshops, and shared tasks.
