Professor Andy Way of the ADAPT Centre for Digital Content Technology, signed a new letter of collaboration between the School of Computing in Dublin City University and Indian Institute of Technology (ITT) Patna on 8th of December. Prof Way was in ITT, Patna, leading a six day Neural Machine Translation (NMT) workshop from the 4th-10th December. The workshop is part of the Global Initiative of Academics Networks (GIAN) programme run by the Government of India.
The letter of intent signed by Prof Andy Way and Professor Pushpak Bhattacharya aims to encourage collaborations in the areas of Machine Translation (MT), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Data Analytics, and Computational Science. The three year collaboration will encourage staff and students to partake in exchanged opportunities and share crucial skills and knowledge.
GIAN, the government sponsored initiative, aims to encourage collaborations with international scientists and entrepreneurs. Experts from key research areas run short intensive workshops, providing essential skills and knowledge to members of the Indian research community. The workshops are open to industry leaders, academics, researchers and students, ensuring knowledge is transferred across the research community, updating existing skills and inspiring emerging talent.
Prof Andy Way is a world leading expert in Machine Translation (MT) with over 25 years’ experience in the field. Since 2015 Prof Way has been the Deputy Director of the SFI Research Centre ADAPT, which is transforming how people communicate by analysing, personalising and delivering data more effectively. He was the President of the European Association for Machine Translation for six years and and President of the International Association for Machine Translation for two year. Currently Prof Way is the Editor of the Machine Translation Journal.
Discussing the workshop Prof Way said “I was delighted to participate in this initiative and share my insights in NMT. Signing the letter of collaboration was a great way to celebrate the end of the NMT workshop. This collaboration will further connect the Irish and Indian research communities, benefiting both countries and the global research community.
