The funding will support the development of linguistic materials for cross-border workshops for secondary schools
The ADAPT All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad (AILO) has secured funding from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media to design and develop a new 2022 set of linguistics materials for cross-border workshops for secondary school students and their teachers.
The project aims to introduce students to the areas of culture and linguistics, improve cross-border school and University collaboration, and increase the participation of disadvantaged schools in border regions. The project will also send a workshop programme brochure and sample training materials to over 1000 secondary schools on the island in early September.
Speaking about the support, Dr Cara Greene, National Coordinator for ADAPT’s AILO programme, said: “The new materials will form the basis for 30 workshops from September to December around the island with school and University partners, North and South, engaging 900 students and their teachers. ADAPT researchers, acting as AILO tutors, will be trained to deliver the new materials. All new resources will be put online and shared via social media so that all schools may use the new materials developed within this project.”
