Dublin, 20 May 2020: As researchers from many fields, ranging from journalism to biomedical research, create, analyse, and publish knowledge graphs, adhering to the same standards-based criteria can be problematic. The Distributed Knowledge Graphs project, therefore, seeks to address these new challenges and establish a Research community for deployable Distributed Knowledge Graph technologies.
This new research community will ensure that they embrace the FAIR data principles, privacy protection, data quality and scalability, while making the data open and decentralised. It is funded through the EU Cost Action programme which provides support to national and EU projects that support “meetings, conferences, workshops, short-term scientific missions, training schools, publications and dissemination activities.”
ADAPT and DCU are working with a network of universities across Europe to ensure this new community receives a wide variety of input. The organisations who have confirmed their involvement so far are Vienna University of Economics and Business, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Tallinn University of Technology, Academy of Sciences of Albania, École des mines de Saint-Étienne, SZTAKI, Jerusalem College of Technology, University of Luxembourg, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Maastricht University, Instytut Informatyki Gospodarczej sp. z o.o., Sabanci University, Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Sarajevo, Institute Mihajlo Pupin, University of Bergen, and the Faculty of Technical Sciences, Novi Sad.
ADAPT’s Dr. Rob Brennan, who is represented on the management committee, said: “We are looking forward to working with an exemplary range of organisations to create an agenda for practices for scalable, privacy-respecting, high quality and decentralised Knowledge Graph publication and consumption. Despite disruption caused by the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis worldwide, we hope to continue with the preliminary stages of the project in the summer months.”
